This is a traditional neckpiece worn by the Toda tribe of Southern India, a simple and culturally rich community from the Nilgiri Hills. It is worn during their cultural events and rituals, equally popular with both men and women.

 

It is a beautifully threaded item with silver beads and a centrepiece with multiple silver fins, that resembles a starfruit. It is very unique and specific to the Todas. With time, this has become increasingly popular with the urban group of young women too, being loved for its old world charm and the unusual design. It goes equally well with a saree, as it does with a collar shirt!
